How-to adjust Google Chrome on your smartphone for mobile-optimized eBay search results
If eBay pages or search results look “desktop-like” or not optimized on your phone, you can adjust a few Chrome settings to ensure the mobile version is shown correctly.

Disable “Desktop site” mode
Chrome may force desktop layouts, which prevents mobile optimization.

  • Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser
  • Make sure “Desktop site” is NOT selected

ℹ️   How-to use “Keyword search including”?

ℹ️   How-to use “Exclude words from search”?

×

In eBay Advanced Search, the “Search Including” field allows you to expand your search beyond the default settings or narrow it down to specific item conditions.

Here are the three main options you can select:

Title and Description
By default, eBay only searches within item titles. If you enable this option, eBay will also scan the full item description for your search terms. This is useful when a seller includes important details in the description but not in the title.

Completed Items
This option shows all listings that ended within the last 90 days, regardless of whether the items were sold or not.

Sold Items
This filter is especially useful for price research. It limits the results to items that were actually sold, allowing you to see the real market value of a product instead of just the sellers’ asking prices.

×

In eBay’s advanced search on eBay.com, the field “Exclude words from your search” allows you to specify terms that must not appear in the title or description of search results.
This feature is especially useful for filtering out irrelevant listings or spam and making your search results more precise.

Key details on how to use it:
How it works: If you enter a word (e.g., “defective”), all listings containing that word will be excluded from the results.
Multiple words: To exclude several terms at once, separate them with commas (e.g., defective, damaged, spare part).
Manual method (minus sign): You can also exclude words directly in the regular search bar by placing a minus sign immediately in front of the word, without a space (e.g., leather jacket -faux leather).
Effect on search: Using excluded words often disables eBay’s automatic search expansion (such as synonyms), so only exact matches for your remaining terms are shown.

Practical examples:
Searching for new items: You are looking for an iPhone but want to avoid used devices. Add words like used, second-hand to the exclusion field.
Excluding accessories: You are searching for a camera but do not want bags or lenses. Exclude terms such as bag, case, lens.

Sort By

ℹ️   Why use “Sort By”?

×

In eBay’s Advanced Search, “Sort By” simply means “sorting order.” It lets you decide how search results are displayed before you start the search.

In this menu, you can choose from the following standard options:

Best Match: Combines relevance, seller rating, and the item's popularity on eBay.
Time: ending soonest: Shows listings that are ending soonest first, so auctions that are about to close appear at the top.
Time: newly listed: Displays the most recently listed items first.
Price + Shipping: lowest/highest first: Sorts results by the total cost, including item price and shipping fees.

Advanced Search on eBay – The “Price” Filter Explained

In eBay’s Advanced Search, the “Price” section allows you to narrow down your search results based on your budget.

Here are the key features of this filter:
Set a price range: You can enter a minimum and/or maximum price. This is especially useful for filtering out items that are outside your budget.
Currencies: When searching on international eBay sites, you can often choose how prices are displayed in a specific currency. For example, a “C” before the price indicates Canadian dollars.
Sale items: There is often an option such as “Sale items”, which lets you search specifically for listings where the price has been temporarily reduced by the seller.
Sorting options: Combined with sorting settings, you can choose whether results are shown as “Price + Shipping: lowest first” or “highest first”, based on total cost including shipping.
Check sold listings: If you enable the “Sold listings” filter, the price section shows the actual prices at which similar items have been sold in the past. A green, strikethrough price often indicates that a Best Offer was accepted.
Time filter – newly listed: Shows the newest listings first.
Price + Shipping: lowest/highest first: Sorts results by total cost including shipping fees.

Buying Formats

ℹ️   What are the benefits of “Buying formats”?

Two Ways to Buy on eBay: Fixed Price vs. Auction,
On eBay, items are typically sold in one of two formats:
Fixed Price (Buy It Now)
These listings are easy to recognize—they feature a “Buy It Now” button along with a set price. If you click the button, you can purchase the item instantly at that listed price.
Some fixed-price listings also include an “Accepts Offers” option. This means the seller is open to negotiation. You can submit a lower price, and the seller can choose to accept it, reject it, or respond with a counteroffer.
"Auction" listings include a “Place Bid” button and display the current highest bid. You can enter your own bid and compete with other buyers. Auctions run for a set period of time, and when they end, the item is sold to the highest bidder.
Listings with Both Options
Some items offer both formats at the same time. In these cases, you can either buy the item immediately using “Buy It Now” or place a bid. If no one chooses the instant purchase option, the item will be awarded to the highest bidder when the auction ends.

Classified Ads” refers to listings where buyers contact sellers directly to arrange price and transaction outside of the eBay checkout system, often used for local offers with no standard eBay buyer protection.

Item Condition

ℹ️   What are “Item conditions” used for?

×

Item Condition
In eBay’s Advanced Search, the “Condition” field simply refers to the item’s condition.
This filter allows you to choose whether you want to search for new or used products.

Key Options
Depending on the category, eBay offers several condition types to help narrow down your results:
New: The item is unused, in its original packaging, and shows no signs of wear.
Used: The item has been previously used. It may show signs of wear but is generally fully functional.
Refurbished: A pre-owned item that has been inspected, cleaned, and, if necessary, repaired by the manufacturer or a qualified seller.
Not Specified: Listings where the seller has not selected a standardized condition.

Why This Filter Matters
Using the “Condition” filter helps you quickly eliminate irrelevant listings. For example, if you’re looking for a replacement part that’s only available used, or a gift that must be brand new, selecting the appropriate condition can save you a lot of time scrolling through results.

In eBay.com’s Advanced Search, these filters help you narrow down listings based on specific selling conditions, discounts, or added protections. Here’s what each option means:

Return Policies

Free Returns
The seller offers free returns, meaning they cover the cost of return shipping—no matter the reason for the return.

Returns Accepted
This filter shows items where the seller accepts returns in general. Who pays for return shipping (buyer or seller) depends on the individual policy listed in each offer.

Sellers & Deals

Authorized Seller
Displays items from sellers who are officially authorized by the manufacturer to sell their products. This often ensures authenticity and eligibility for manufacturer warranties.

Deals and Savings
Filters for special offers and bargains. These listings are often priced below the usual market value or are part of a current eBay promotion.

Sale Items
Shows items that have been temporarily discounted by the seller as part of a sale or promotion.

Special Formats & Benefits

Listed as Lots
Searches for grouped listings (“lots”). A lot includes multiple similar or identical items sold together for one total price (e.g., a bundle of 10 T-shirts).

Benefits Charity
Filters for listings where a portion (or all) of the proceeds is donated to a charitable organization. These items are often marked with a small yellow-and-blue ribbon.

Authenticity Guarantee
This filter is especially relevant for luxury items and collectibles (such as sneakers, watches, or designer bags). It shows items that are physically inspected and verified for authenticity by independent experts before being shipped to you.

Time-based filters

Items "Ending within"
This filter is particularly useful for bargain hunters in auctions, as it displays items whose listing is about to expire.
Purpose: You narrow down the results to items that are ending soon (e.g., within the next 1 to 24 hours or up to 7 days).
Advantage: Items nearing the end of their auction have often already reached their final price. This allows you to place a last-minute bid (“sniping”) without having to wait for days.

In addition to “Ending within,” there are also supplementary filters:
"Ending in more than": Displays items that still have a longer remaining duration.
"Started within": Filters for items that were listed recently.

×

In eBay’s Advanced Search, the “Number of bids” filter refers to the total number of bids placed on an auction so far.
With this filter, you can specifically search for auctions that are either attracting a lot of attention or are still completely undiscovered. The input fields allow you to set a range (e.g., from “X” to “Y” bids).

Typical use cases for this filter:

Finding bargains (0 to 1 bid): You can search for auctions that hardly anyone has bid on yet. These are often items that have been overlooked due to a poor title or poor photos and may therefore remain inexpensive.

Finding popular items (many bids): Conversely, trends can be identified. Many bids signal high interest and often also a market-driven price or a reputable seller.

Filter for genuine auctions: Since Buy It Now items have no bids, this filter (e.g., “at least 1 bid”) helps display only active auctions where bidding is already underway.

×

The “Multiple items from” (Min/Max Quantity) filter option narrows down search results based on how many units of an item are available in a single listing (fixed price).
It is used to find sellers who have large quantities of the same product in stock.

Meaning: You specify that the search results should only display listings that have, for example, at least 4 or more units of the item you’re looking for available.

Usage: Especially useful for finding wholesalers or if you want to buy multiple identical items.

Limitation: This option often does not filter well for listings that include variations (e.g., different sizes/colors in a single listing), but primarily focuses on the sheer quantity of the identical product.

Shipping Options

ℹ️   About “Shipping Options”

×

The “Shipping Options” help you filter search results by shipping costs and delivery methods to avoid unexpected shipping charges.
The main options are Free Shipping and Local Pickup, which are often supplemented by entering a ZIP code and distance.

Main filters under “Shipping Options”:

Free Shipping: Displays only items for which the seller does not charge shipping costs.
Local Pickup: Filters results where the buyer can pick up the item directly from the seller. This is ideal for bulky items or to save on shipping costs.

Additionally, these options are displayed in eBay’s advanced search:
Item Location: Here you can narrow down where the item is located (e.g., “US Only” for items within the US).
Distance: You can search for nearby sellers using the ZIP code and a distance in miles (e.g., 10 to 1,000 miles).

Tip: To sort results by total cost, use the “Price + Shipping: lowest first” sorting option.
